School Policies and Procedures

As stated on page 12 “This Code of Practice provides statutory guidance on duties, policies and procedures relating to Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated regulations and applies to England. It relates to children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and disabled children and young people.”

As a school we must have regard to what the Code say and we must use it when making decisions around SEND.

Our SEN and Inclusion Policy has been updated to reflect the reforms in the SEND Code of Practice 2015

As stated in the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 2015, section 6.79;

‘The governing bodies of maintained schools and maintained nursery schools and the proprietors of academy schools must publish information on their websites about the implementation of the governing body’s or the proprietor’s policy for pupils with SEN. The information published should be updated annually and any changes to the information occurring during the year should be updated as soon as possible.’

The school’s SEN Information report has been updated for the current academic year. In school we are currently working in partnership with parents to develop the SEN Information Report in a process of co-production.  Updates will appear on the website. The school’s SEN Information Report is intended to provide information about the Special Educational Needs provision.  In line with the SEN Code of Practice 2015, it is our intention to work with and include parents and pupils in decision making processes.  We are currently working with parents and are encouraging them to become active participants in decisions made about their child.  We want parents to have a strategic voice with the SEN Information Report.  We are currently working with a group of parents to get their feedback and views about what should be in this report, how it should be accessed, and what it should look like on the website.

We already use a Team Around the Family (TAF) process in supporting pupils with additional needs. A collaborative approach to addressing the needs of the family and child is followed along with other professionals and external agencies.
